Supporting Honduran Families in Lake County, Illinois
Dr Lawrence Robbins’s Nonprofit
Dr. Lawrence Robbins has expanded his mission of compassionate care to include the Honduran immigrant community right here at home. Through the American Headache Association, he and a small team are now providing direct, person-to-person support for families in need across Lake County.
What we do:
Basic Medical Care: In collaboration with the Fenix Clinic in Highwood, we help cover costs for clinic visits and essential medications.
Clothing Support: Dr. Robbins, his wife, and a dedicated staff member personally accompany families to local stores to purchase clothing and essentials.
Food Access: Families are taken grocery shopping to ensure access to healthy, everyday food staples.
This is deeply personal work—hands-on and heart-forward. We meet people where they are and walk beside them.
Why This Matters
There’s no red tape. No bureaucracy. Just direct aid for families who need it now. The number of people we can help depends entirely on available funding.
Dr. Lawrence Robbins has spent his career caring for people with neurological and psychiatric conditions — and extending that care far beyond the walls of his Chicago-area practice. Through the American Headache Association, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, he leads health-focused projects that serve underserved communities in both Central America and the United States.
These efforts — from prenatal vitamins to clean water systems, immigrant mental health support to medical education — are made possible by a small group of generous donors. With no paid staff and minimal overhead, nearly every dollar goes straight to the people who need it most. Since 2017, the American Headache Association has focused its mission on rural Honduras, where over 400,000 people live with little or no access to medical care. Founded and led by neurologist Dr. Lawrence Robbins, our free neurology and psychiatry clinic has grown from a single borrowed room to one of the busiest neurological centers in the country.
Looking Ahead
In 2026, Dr. Robbins may transition away from the current Honduras clinic as he explores the next chapter of service. While the focus may shift, his commitment to providing compassionate, hands-on care to underserved communities will remain at the heart of the mission.

Who We Are
The American Headache Association (AHA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded by Dr. Lawrence Robbins, a leading neurologist and pioneer in headache and pain treatment. While our name reflects our roots, today our mission extends far beyond headaches—and far beyond borders.
We focus on delivering compassionate medical care, psychiatric support, and basic health essentials to communities that are too often forgotten. Whether that’s providing prenatal vitamins to women in rural Honduras, offering mental health care to immigrants in Lake County, Illinois, or educating the next generation of neurologists in Chicago and Central America, our goal remains the same:
To restore dignity, deliver healing, and ensure access to care where it’s needed most.
We operate with minimal overhead, no paid salaries, and a deep commitment to putting every dollar to work on the ground. Dr. Robbins personally covers most administrative costs, allowing donations to go directly toward the people and projects that matter.
“We started with one patient and one chart in a borrowed room. Now we’re one of the busiest neurology clinics in Honduras.”
— Dr. Lawrence Robbins
